Biography
Dr. Indraneel Sanyal is a biotechnologist who researches in the area of agriculture, functional genomics and stress biology. He works as Principal Scientist in Plant Transgenic Laboratory at CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute Lucknow, India that encompasses different disciplines including Plant Tissue Culture, Plant Transformation, Functional Genomics, Cell and Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering. Indraneel has a basic background in biotechnology of grain legumes and possesses more than 16 years research experience in agricultural research. His research is focused on structural, functional, comparative and translational genomics for improving the crop productivity of legume crops in India. He has contributed in tissue culture of chickpea, pigeonpea, Arabidopsis, tomato and tobacco and in the development of insect-resistant chickpea. He has also expressed the synthetic, codon-optimized human alpha-1-antitrypsin gene in tomato and tomato for therapeutic applications. Currently he is working in the area of developing transgenic chickpea tolerant to abiotic and biotic stresses.
