Biography

I am a biochemist and molecular biophysicist by profession involved in cross-disciplinary research involving biochemical, molecular biology and genetic approaches I had started out as a chemistry student who completed her Masters (with Organic Chemistry Honors) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur India in 2006. I joined IISc, Bangalore for their reputed Ph.D pogramme in 2006 in the Dept of Molecular Biophysics under the guidance of Prof. Dipankar Chatterji. My work involved exploring the binding kinetics of holo RNA polymerase with different sigma factors with an aim towards understanding the role played by stationary phase sigma factors in the survival of M. tuberculosis as persistors. The work was published in reputed International journals. I completed my PhD in 2012 and moved to US for my postdoctoral training. I joined Scripps Research Institute in Oct. 2013. With my extensive experience in kinetics of protein-DNA interaction involving transcriptional regulation, I look forward to integrate my knowledge on in vitro biophysical assays with in vivo quantitative functional genomic studies in order to determine the interplay of genetic pathways involved in conferring resistance to heavy metal toxicity with a aim towards novel bioremediation strategies
