Biography

Maria Cristina S. Ribeiro is graduated in Civil Engineering, Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and post-graduated in ?Advanced Studies in Building Rehabilitation?. She is research fellow at ?Composite Materials and Structures Research Unit? of INEGI (Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering), collaborate researcher at Mining Engineering Department and invited professor at Civil Engineering Department of FEUP (Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto), Porto, Portugal. Her main research fields concern mix-design of concrete-polymer composites materials according to end-use applications, hybrid composite systems, nanocomposites, composite materials flame retardancy processes and waste management solutions for fibre reinforced polymers.

Research Interest

? Mechanical behaviour analysis of reinforced or modified polymer concrete (PC) materials: fibre reinforced PC (glass, carbon and natural fibres) and PC modified with light weight aggregates (cork granules, wood shaves, expanded clay, rubber or plastic by-products); ? Development of composite hybrid structures made up of PC and FRP pultrusion profiles; ? Assessment of potential applications of PC materials in the building and construction industry (e.g., as repair patching material for rehabilitation purposes; basis material for thermal/acoustic insulator sandwich panels; precasting of functional or structural members elements with reutilization of industrial solid wastes for a sustainable and cost-effective construction); ? Ignifugation processes of polymer composite materials: Micro and Nano-scale flame retardant systems; ? Safety issues on manufacturing process of nanocomposites; ? Recycling processes of FRP composite materials and reuse into new composite materials.
