Biography

Professor Mortell graduated from the UCD School of Medicine in 1995 and also completed his MD in UCD. As part of his higher specialist training, he undertook a Clinical Fellowship in the area of Paediatric Vascular Anomalies and Minimally Invasive Colorectal Surgery in Cincinnati Children?s Hospital, Ohio, USA. Following completion of the Specialist Registrar programme, he was appointed as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon in Our Lady?s Children?s Hospital, Crumlin and The Children?s University Hospital, Temple Street.

Research Interest

In 2014, Professor Mortell was appointed as the RCSI Associate Professor of Paediatric Surgery. He is involved in research, with many peer reviewed publications and book chapters to his name and also acts as a journal reviewer for both Paediatric Surgery International and the Irish Medical Journal. He has a passion for Medical Information Technology which he applies to the role of RCSI Associate Professor of Surgery and as a Consultant Surgeon.
