Biography

Medical Degree by Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (1982), MSc in Psychiatry by Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1995) and PhD in Public Health Epidemiology (Public Health) by Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ-2004). Associate Professor of Medical Psychology and Mental Health in the School of Medical Sciences in the University of Rio de Janeiro State (UERJ), and psychiatrist in the Brazilian Health Ministry, acting as mental health supervisor for Family Health Strategy . Researcher in the following areas: mental health in primary care, public health, somatization and pain, training in mental health, mental health classification. Supervisor in Posgraduation courses - residence in family medicine, psychiatry and medical psychology.  Leader of the Research Group (UERJ-CNPq) on Mental Health in Primary Care; Head of the Mental Health Outpatient Unit  and the LIPAPS (Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Primary Care Research) in the University of Rio de Janeiro State;  member of the ICD-11-PC- WHO Working Group.

 
Research Interest

We need a system of classification to help us make sense of the variety of mental health problems found in primary care.
