Biography

Professor of Medicine at the Hospital Universitario Reina Sofia Cordoba, Spain since 1993. Graduated from Seville Medical School (1974), performed training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology in Oklahoma Health Science Center. In 1987 Moved to UCLA as Assistant Professor and Staff Physician in the Department of Nephrology at West LA Medical Center (UCLA teaching program). Director of Research at Hospital Universitario Reina Sofia form 1993 to 2009. Head of the mineral Metabolism Research Group. Editor of Nefrologia since 2013. Major research interest is pathogenesis of secondary hyperparathyroidism, mecahnisms of parathyroid hyperplasia in uremic patients, regulation of parathyroid cell receptors, role of phosphate in secondary hyperparathyroidism, abnormalities in calcium metabolism, regulation of FGF23 and the genesis and management of vascular calcifications. Number of manuscripts published in the field: 241. Member of several Scientific Committees and Editorial board of NDT and Kidney International Reviewer for large number Nephrology and Endocrinology Journals.
