Biography

Dr. OUJ Umeora is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Ebonyi State University and an honorary consultant obstetrician/Gynecologist with the Federal Teaching Hospital, all in Abakaliki Southeast Nigeria. He trained as an obstetrician/Gynecologist at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City Edo State of Nigeria. He is interest mainly is in feto-maternal medicine and he is the head of the High risk pregnancy unit at the Federal Teaching Hospital. A bioethicist, Dr. Umeora holds an MPH with distinction in Health Research ethics from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. A course he undertook under the auspices of South African Research Ethics Training Initiative (SARETI) with sponsorship from the NIH. An astute teacher and trainer, he holds so much interest in undergraduate medical and residents training. He serves as a resource person, supervisor and examiner at both the West African college of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria(Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology). He is also the Director of Residency training at the Teaching Hospital where he also serves as the IRB chair. A position he also holds at the Faculty of clinical medicine in the University. He has over 100 publications in scientific/medical journals and authored numerous textbook chapters. He is currently the editor in chief of African Journal of Medical and Health sciences and an editorial board member of the Journal of Obsetrics and Gynecology.
