Biography

Isaias Dichi is Professor of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition at the University of Londrina, Paraná, Brazil. He works now on the following research areas: physiopathology and diet therapy in metabolic syndrome with fish oil n-3 fatty acids, olive oil, soy and beans; physiopathology and diet therapy in other inflammatory diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid disease, and systemic erythematosus lupus with fish oil n-3 fatty acids, olive oil, and probiotics; prevention and treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia; nutrition and metabolism in gastroenterological patients. Two of his studies were considered of special or outstanding interest by Current Opinion in Gastroenterology: the comparison of fish oil n-3 fatty acids and sulfasalazine in ulcerative colitis and the comparison of ferrous sulphate and ferrous glycinate chelate in gastrectomized patients with iron deficiency anemia. He also showed in other study, the marked improvement in signs and symptoms of arthritis rheumatoid patients supplemented with fish oil, and that this improvement was even higher when olive oil was added. He has over 85 scientific publications, including over 75 research papers and 10 book chapters.
