Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator

An implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is a device implantable inside the body, that performs cardioversion, defibrillation, and (in modern versions) pacing of the heart. So it is capable of correcting most life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias.
