Abstract

Comparison of SIGN Implants in Treatment of Closed Distal Femur Fractures in a Rural Hospital in Tanzania

 James Allen

SIGNFracture Care Internationalis a non-profit organisation that was established in 1999 by Dr Lewis Zirkle. It provides hospitals with intramedullary nails that are tailored for use in resource-limited settings. In treating distal femur fractures SIGN offers two options: the standard SIGN nail and the fin SIGN nail. The standard nail has a distal interlocking screw that can be placed without image intensifier. The fin nail is also inserted without image intensifier, but a fin replaces the distal interlocking screw.
