Sabi Redwood qualified as Registered Nurse in Adult and Children’s Nursing in 1987, having completed her nurse education at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Poole Hospital. She worked in neonatal intensive care, general paediatrics and clinical management before starting a career in research and teaching.

Her early research focused on learning in clinical practice. She led a small team of researchers in exploring and evaluation new roles for supporting students of the health care professions in the clinical environment, such as clinical link lecturers, lecturer practitioners and consultants in nursing and occupational therapy. She taught at postgraduate and undergraduate level, leading units on qualitative research methods, research ethics and practice development processes, and supported students' and professionals’ learning in research and practice development methodologies in health and social care. As Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Qualitative Research at Bournemouth University, she explored issues of ethics and reflexivity in practitioner-led qualitative health research which formed the basis of her doctoral thesis.

In 2009, she joined the University of Birmingham as a Research Fellow in Medical Sociology for the Birmingham and Black Country Collaborations in Leadership in Health Research and Care (CLAHRC), contributing to the design and conduct of a number of research projects and the supervision of PhD students. The Birmingham & Black Country CLAHRC is one of nine pilot CLAHRCs funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). They were established to undertake applied health research, focusing in particular on the needs of patients, and to support the translation of research evidence into practice in the NHS.
