Nutraceutical is defined as a product derived from food source and it gives extra nutritional benefits in the diet. Nutraceuticals are the combination of nutrients and pharmaceuticals. Nutraceutical term was coined in 1989 by Stephen DeFelice. nutraceutical should provide a health benefit to the consumer that is greater than that ofa general food item. Nutraceuticals are considered to be one of the fastest growing areas of interest for human health and disease prevention. Canadian food processors/retailers understand these startling statistics, and are striving to increase expenditures in the nutraceutical and functional food market by "adding value" to their products.
