Natural Products Chemistry

A natural product consists of chemical compound or substance produced by a living organism, found in nature. In actual meaning any substance produced by life is a type of natural product. Although natural products are produced naturally but it can also be prepared synthetically (chemical synthesis). Chemical synthesis plays an important role in the development of organic chemistry by providing synthetic products. The study of natural products offers an excellent strategy toward identifying novel biological probes for a number of diseases. Historically, natural products have played an important role in the development of pharmaceutical drugs for a number of diseases including cancer and infection.
