Family History and Child Obesity

Occurrence of obesity in children also gets affected by the genetics in a family. Maternal obesity can be one of the reasons for occurrence of obesity in children. Hence, it has been said that pregnant women with obesity must undergo several treatments before childs birth in order to reduce the risk of getting an obese child.

Child obesity is a public health priority with numerous and complex causes. This study focuses on factors within the family, namely stressful experiences, which may be associated with child obesity.parental stressors associated with childhood obesity are poor physical and mental health, financial strain, and leading a single-parent household, said Prout-Parks.Although multiple stressors can elicit a ‘stressor pile-up, causing adverse physical health in children, parents perception of their general stress level may be more important than the actual stressors.
