Eating Behavior in children

Eating behavior in children is an important factor that has to be taken into care by the parents in order to reduce the possibility of occurrence of health related problems in children. The children in highly developed countries usually adapt different life style with non nutritional eating nature. This leads to serious physical problems like obesity, diabetes, etc.

Eating behaviors is a complex process influenced by social, cultural, biological, ecological, and personal factors. From a developmental perspective, societal influence increases as the child ages and parental influence remains important throughout childhood. In developing countries, poor quality of food, limited dietary diversity, and household structure and economic conditions contribute to poor nutritional status of young children. During infancy, biological influences predominate with a preference for sweet over bitter or sour, which helps to ensure nutritional adequacy through the consumption of breast milk or formula. As the children matured, the diets became less nutritionally sound and protein consumption increased significantly.
