Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic Retinopathy occurs in the patients suffering from diabetes. It occurs when retina is damaged due to diabetes which can further lead to blindness and is more often in the patients who has diabetes for 20 years or more than that. It can be prevented by regular treatment and checkup of eye. The longer a person has diabetes, the higher his or her chances of developing diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is the result of microvascular retinal changes which leads to pericyte death caused by activation of protein kinase and mitogen-activated protein kinase by glucose.
