Condensed Matter Physics is the scientific study of the properties of solids, liquids, and other forms of matter in which atoms or particles adhere to each other or are otherwise highly concentrated. Solid-state physics is a branch of condensed matter physics. It encompasses the study of ordered crystalline phases of solids, as well as disordered phases such as the amorphous and glassy phases of solids. Furthermore, it also includes materials with short-ranged order such as conventional liquids and liquid crystals which show unconventional order intermediate between those of a crystalline solid and a liquid.
