Cell Membrane

Cell membrane is also known as plasma membrane/cytoplasmic membrane. it is a biological membrane that separates all cells from interior to outside environment. It is selectively permeable to ions and organic molecules. It consists of phospholipid bilayer with proteins embedded in it. Functions are passive osmosis, diffusion, transmembrane protein channels, transporters, endocytosis and exocytosis. Prokaryotic cells are surrounded by cell membrane. Cell membrane structure is of fluid mosaic model and consists of lipid bilayer, membrane polarity and membrane structures; cytoskeleton.it is composed of lipids, phospholipids, carbohydrates, proteins.
