Professor Andy Petroianu has received his MD in 1976 and the PhD in Surgery in 1985 at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Currently, he is working as Full Professor at the Department of Surgery of the School of Medicine in the Federal University of Minas Gerais and is the Head of the Service of General Surgery at the Santa Casa Hospital in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He is the Coordinator of the Medicine Unit of the National Council of Science and Technology in Brazil, and Member of the Surgery Sector of the National Post-graduate Council in Brazil, Member of Medicine Sector of the Foundation for Assistance to Research of Minas Gerais State. His research has included studies on spleen anatomy and functions, conservative surgeries on spleen, healing procedures, organ transplantations, digestive motility, oncologic surgeries, etc. Based on this research and fellowship training he/she has received 112 awards and honors, such as Best Surgeon, Best Researcher, Honor Citizen of Belo Horizonte city, Best research according to the National Academy of Medicine, Outstanding researcher by the Academy of Medicine of Minas Gerais, 19 Best research according to the Brazilian College of Surgeons, etc. He is serving as an editorial member of several reputed journals like International Journal of Surgery, International Journal of Surgery Case Reports, Applied Cancer Research, Annals of Brazilian National Academy of Medicine, Brazilian College of Surgeons Journal, Journal of Medicine and Life, Medical Journal of Minas Gerais, Einstein Journal, etc. & expert Reviewers for journals like Lancet, Annals of Surgery, Pos One, Chirurgia, Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery, World Journal of Hepatology, etc. He has authored 492 research articles, 25 books, 163 book chapters and more than 3000 presentations in Medical and Research Meetings.
