Insect farming is the practice of growing insects for the purpose of industrial products, agricultural purposes and sustainable foods for animals and humans. Insects are rich in nutrients and could be the new way to feed livestock for animal protein. Crickets and meal worms are farmed mostly.
Feeding trials also suggest that a bug-based diet will produce bigger, stronger livestock.
Insect farming uses a tiny fraction of the feed, water and land needed to raise traditional livestock such as cattle or pigs. Since bugs are not mammals, they are also much less likely to transfer diseases to us.
