Biography
Dr. Ravi Pratap Singh, Professor, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi was born in February 1, 1956 in a marginal farmer?s family in the village Dandopur, Padrauna, Deoria. Dr. Singh has completed his primary education from village school, secondary education from U. N. K. Inter College Padrauna and graduation and post graduation from Gorakhpur University obtaining first division starting from primary education to post graduation. He did his Ph.D. in Plant tissue culture under supervision of Prof B. D. Singh (renound biotechnologist) from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. As a teacher he has about 36 years of teaching experience in undergraduate and post graduate teaching, published around 106 research papers in Indian and foreign journals of repute, most of his papers are above 5,0 NAAS ranking and supervised eighteen Ph.D. and thirty five M.Sc. Ag students in the field of Plant tissue Culture , Molecular biology and lentil and rice breeding. In addition Dr. Singh has contributed many chapers in different books and also contributed Hindi articles in agriculture patrikas for farmers. He has received many hounours, awards and recognition to his credit and is also member of dozen of societies. As a Rice Breeder Dr. Singh has developed about nine high yielding scented climate resilient (early maturing drought tolerant) rice varieties for cultivation of farmers.
