Toxicologist/Human Health Assessor, Utah Department of Health, Salt Lake City, Utah, United States.

Biography
Dr. Evelyn G. Reátegui-Zirena is originally from Peru where she got her bachelor?s degree in Biology and did her undergrad thesis on molecular genetics while working for the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute. Evelyn got her master?s degree in Environmental Science from Troy University, AL. She worked with fish, mussels and crayfish on the daily basis, and her thesis studied sediment and water samples around oil companies in the Peruvian Amazon rivers. She started her toxicological work testing crude oil on Peruvian fish species. Evelyn got her Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology from Texas Tech University. She studied how diet influences invertebrates? development, reproduction and energy budget. She also studied the transgenerational effects of diet and contaminants and how they affect organisms? offspring. She has also worked on metals bioconcentration and how that is related to toxicity. She has presented her research at several regional and national conferences, and has published her work in a variety of journals. She is currently working for the Utah Department of Health as a toxicologist, assessing environmental risks related to human health.
