D. Ramprasad Naik, M. Tarakeswara Naidu and S. A. Rahiman

The study has tried to estimate the loss in respect of biological resources in the submergence areas of the Polavaram reservoir. Though visual interpretation of IRS P6 LISS III satellite imagery, identified forest type are dense forest, open forest, scrub forest and forest plantation. A total of 245 species are reported from the proposed area of submergence. Study suggests alternate ways and means and strategies for the improvement of the biotic environment in and around submergence area of the Polavaram project. Environmental studies of any project are prime to protect the environment at the best possible
