Objectives: To analyze healthcare workers approach to COVID-19 through binary classification and regression analysis on 13 different variables vs three dichotomous variables (age, gender and education levels).
Material and methods: A quantitative cross-sectional research design was utilized in March, 2020. A total of 158 of the respondents were assessed for their knowledge attitude and approaches towards Corona Virus infection. Relevant information’s were collected on a pre-designed Performa prepared in accordance with the objectives of the study. Data was entered in SPSS version 25th for descriptive and regression analysis to determine the trend of healthcare providers towards COVID-19.
Results: Eighty one (51.3%) were males and 77(48.7%) females. The age range of our respondent was from 20 to 50 years. The distribution on basis of education were; 57(36.1%) medical students, 33(20.9%) General practitioners, 29 (18.6%) Bachelor, 24(15.2%) Master/M.Phil and 11(7%) with fellowships. We observed a significant difference in male gender (vs female gender) regarding; knowledge of outbreak (p=0.002,OR: 7.2), knowledge about the biology of 2019-nCoV(p=0.07,OR: 3.37), worries about the shortage of food and health issues in lock down situation(p=0.005,OR: 4.1) and confidence level in this crucial time (p=0.07,OR: 4.2). Taking education as dichotomous variable (Medical s vs non medical/ undergraduate), we observed a significant difference regarding; treatment approach (p=0.001), denial of biological war (p=0.001) and in the opinion that government should provide food and health facility in lock down to the incumbents (p=0.001). A significant difference in opinion was noted in age group>30 years & <30 years regarding; food shortage in lockdown (p=0.005, OR: 4.1) and level of confidence to fight 2019-nCoV (p=0.007, OR: 4.2).
Conclusion: We concluded that in female gender the trend is lower regarding knowledge of outbreak and biology of COVID-19 and are more worried about the shortage of food in case of lockdown. The approach towards precautionary measures and treatment and denial of misconception like biological war, is more in educated group with achieved medical qualification.
